Capitol Hill BID Creates Pilot Program to Provide Extended Service Hours for Eastern Market Metro Park

After the final ribbon cutting of the newly redeveloped Eastern Market Metro Park (EMMP), the parcels have exploded with public use and neighbors enjoying a new area “to walk to not just walk through”.  With increased activity in the Park comes a need for basic cleaning and maintenance beyond the 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. core service hours provided by the Capitol Hill BID (CHBID).

In addition to increased trash, there are now tables and chairs that need cleaning and resetting on a daily on basis. These extra tasks require the development of supplementary services to provide the extra time and attention needed to keep EMMP well-maintained for all.  Therefore, starting September 1, the CHBID will extend the service hours at EMMP until 7 p.m.

The BID has been in consultation with Councilmember Charles Allen in an attempt to develop a plan that will keep our new park sparkling.  The initial pilot program will run through Fiscal Year 2022 only (October 1, 2021 – September 30, 2022) and is designed to gauge the actual service needs of the newly activated area and to plan a collaborative solution for long-term funding of the extended services.  Partial funding for the pilot program comes from a PPP grant the BID received in July.
