Celebrate National Library Week and Emancipation Day Weekend at the Historic Miracle Theatre on April 19, 2026

Join us Sunday, April 19th, as we celebrate National Library Week, Emancipation Day weekend, and Indie Filmmaking at the Historic Miracle Theatre.

UNBANNED is a three-part public experience: a live forum, an expert panel, and a screening of The Librarians documentary, executive produced by Sarah Jessica Parker and directed by Kim A. Snyder, followed by a moderated discussion led by Katea Stitt, Program Director at WPFW 89.3 FM. The discussion will feature Author & Literary Activist Kenny Carroll, Rachael Walker (National Education Association's Read Across America), McKenna Samson (PEN America), and Kelsea Johnson (Stirred Stories). The BOL Coop Bookstore Association will host a pop-up bookstore in our lobby.

This event serves as a fundraiser for the 2026 opening of The Artivism Library Collection in the Anacostia Arts District. It is sponsored by Social Art and Culture, Mid-Atlantic Arts, WPFW 89.3 FM, We Act Radio, and Cozy Black Girl Book Club.

Books purchased will be donated to The Artivism Library Collection, which opens in 2026 on Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE in Historic Anacostia, Washington, DC. All donations from the event benefit The Artivism Library Collection.
