Cherry Blossom Special is a progressive bluegrass band based in the Washington DC area. A truly unique ensemble, each musician draws on a distinct set of influences and together they create a one of a kind sound that bridges the gap between the traditional and the experimental. Nick Cameron, on mandolin and vocals, leads the band with composing and arranging panache, Justin Heath on guitar also composes and adds jazz and flamenco flair, and Mari Carlson infuses Swedish fiddle into her breaks. Nick, Justin and Mari teach at the School of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park. Sophie Chang brings a classical edge on cello, and Greg Mulley holds down the group, as he does in many area ensembles, on bass.
